MEET MINERAL GLASS

Real glass.
A considered choice.

Glass prescription lenses are made from mineral glass. They offer a hard surface and excellent optical performance, with a different balance of weight, durability and options from plastic lenses.

At Dr. Lens Change, the starting point is your favourite frame. We help you explore whether glass is a suitable way to give it a fresh view.

Optical quality

A classic optical material.

Surface hardness

Strong scratch resistance.

Frame first

Suitability matters.

THE CLEAR PICTURE

Reasons to love glass.
Things to weigh up.

A good lens choice should feel right in everyday life. Here are the pros and cons.

The advantages

  • A naturally hard surface

Mineral glass resists scratches well. Care still matters: scratch-resistant does not mean scratch-proof.

  • Excellent optical performance

Glass is valued for its optical quality. Performance depends on the material, design and prescription.

  • Potential for thinner lenses

Higher-index glass can reduce thickness versus lower-index glass for the same prescription and frame.

The trade-offs

  • More weight

Glass is generally heavier than plastic. Frame size and prescription affect comfort.

  • Less impact resistance

Glass can break or chip. It is generally unsuitable for sports, children's eyewear or situations needing impact protection.

  • A more limited selection

Designs, indices, coatings and photochromic options are not available in every combination. Frame compatibility also needs checking.

A LITTLE LENS KNOW-HOW

Understand your options.

Design, lens type and index work together. Each product page lists the available combinations and price per pair.

Clear glass lenses

For customers looking for a clear lens rather than a light-responsive tint. Check the selected product for its coating and UV-protection specifications.

Photochromic glass lenses

A light-responsive option that changes tint with light exposure. Availability and performance depend on the specific lens; confirm its details before ordering.

Lens index

Index describes how strongly a material bends light. A higher index can reduce thickness, but does not automatically mean a lighter or better lens.

FAMILIAR FRAMES. A FRESH START.

Your frame has a story.
Keep it going.

Whether they are your everyday favourites or a pair you have held onto for years, your frames deserve a thoughtful fit. Glass lens replacement starts with reviewing the frame, your prescription and the available lens options.

QUESTIONS, MEET CLARITY.

Glass lens FAQs.

Are glass lenses actually made of glass?

Yes. Here, glass means mineral glass, the lens material. It does not mean every lens fitted to a pair of glasses. Most modern eyeglass lenses use plastic materials instead.

Can I put glass lenses in my existing frames?

Suitable existing frames may be fitted with glass lenses. Frame condition, construction, lens size and prescription all matter. Contact us before ordering if you are unsure; frame suitability needs review.

Are glass lenses scratch-proof?

No. Mineral glass has a hard, scratch-resistant surface, but neither the lens nor its coatings are immune to damage. Handle your glasses carefully and follow the care instructions.

Will every design have clear, photochromic and high-index options?

No. Glass lenses have a more limited selection. Available combinations depend on the lens design and prescription. The product page lists the options and price for that lens.

How long do glass lenses take?

Glass lenses can take 10–30 days to get ready from the time we receive your frame. This is preparation time; shipping takes additional time. A complete prescription and any required measurements are also needed.

Can I order glass lenses through the usual lens selector?

Glass lenses have their own dedicated selection on this page. Select Single Vision, Bifocal & Trifocal or Progressive here, choose the available options on its product page, and add your lenses to your cart.
