Getting started
A new view, in the frames you already love.
Can you replace the lenses in my existing glasses?
Yes. Dr. Lens Change replaces lenses in suitable eyeglass and sunglass frames you already own. You can update your prescription, replace scratched lenses or choose a different lens feature without buying a new frame. We review frame condition and compatibility with your chosen lenses. Start with Lens Selection. Link to this answer ↗
How does mail-in lens replacement work?
Choose your lenses and place your order.
Check your instruction email for the customer data sheet, measurement guide and shipping instructions.
Provide your prescription and any required measurements, then safely send your frames using the instructions.
We prepare and fit your lenses, then return your glasses.
For prescription lenses, have your eyeglass prescription and the frames you want to use ready. Choose your lens type and options, and provide any frame details requested in the product form. If you are missing your prescription or measurements, ask us for help rather than guessing. Production needs your frames and all required information. Link to this answer ↗
How much does eyeglass lens replacement cost?
The price depends on your lens design, material, prescription requirements and selected coatings or options. Use Lens Selection to see the current price for your chosen combination. Mineral glass has its own glass lens collection. Review the selected options and order total before checkout; ask us if your frame or prescription needs special work. Link to this answer ↗
Can I order lenses without a prescription?
Yes. We offer non-prescription replacement lenses, including clear and sunglass options. Choose the non-prescription option in Lens Selection, then review the available materials, colours and coatings for that product. Link to this answer ↗
Do I need to mail a frame if I bought a frame or a complete pair?
The mail-in steps apply when you order new lenses for your own frames. If you purchased only a frame, or a complete pair using a frame purchased from us, you do not need to send us a separate frame. Follow any instructions specific to your order. Link to this answer ↗
02
Prescriptions & measurements
A few details help us get your lenses right.
How do I send you my prescription?
Use the prescription options shown on your product page, such as uploading a clear photo or entering the numbers. You can also email a copy to contact@drlenschange.com with your order number. For mineral glass lenses, email your eyeglass prescription after checkout. Send the complete prescription, including any ADD or prism values. Link to this answer ↗
What if I do not have a copy of my prescription?
Ask your optometrist or the optical store that last supplied your glasses for a copy of your eyeglass prescription. If your current glasses still give you good vision, we may be able to read their lenses; ask us to confirm whether that is suitable for your order. Do not estimate missing prescription numbers. Link to this answer ↗
Can I use my contact lens prescription?
No. Contact lens and eyeglass prescriptions are different. Please provide your eyeglass prescription for prescription replacement lenses. Link to this answer ↗
Can you read the prescription from my existing lenses?
We can often read existing lenses when you are happy with the vision they provide. The lenses need to be readable, and our team must confirm that the information is suitable for your new order. Damaged lenses or particular prescription requirements may mean we need a copy of your eyeglass prescription instead. Link to this answer ↗
What if I do not know my PD?
PD means pupillary distance: the distance between the centres of your pupils. If you do not know it, use the unknown-PD option where shown and follow the measurement guidance in your instruction email. We will help you obtain the information needed. Please do not guess a number. Link to this answer ↗
Do I need to send measurement photos?
Check the measurement guide in your instruction email to see what your order requires. Some lenses need measurements taken while you wear the actual frame being fitted. PD and fitting height are different measurements. Follow the guide and send any required photos before mailing your frames so our team can review them and help avoid delays. Link to this answer ↗
Can you use my prescription or measurements from a previous order?
Tell us your previous order number and whether your prescription has changed. Where the product form offers a previous-order option, you can select it. Our team will check the records and what can be reused. Measurements from one frame are not automatically suitable for a different frame. Link to this answer ↗
Can you make lenses with a strong prescription or prism?
Please contact our team with your complete prescription and frame details before ordering if you have a strong or unusual prescription, prism, or questions about compatibility. Available designs, materials and any special processing depend on the exact combination. We will review it before confirming suitability or additional costs. Link to this answer ↗
03
Your frames
Familiar fit. Thoughtful preparation.
Which types of frames can I send?
We work with many full-rim plastic and metal frames, half-rim frames, drilled rimless frames and full-rim sunglasses. Suitability depends on condition, construction, size and prescription. Send photos before ordering if your frames are damaged, unusually curved or difficult to identify. See the frame guide. Link to this answer ↗
Can you replace lenses in half-rim or rimless glasses?
Yes, subject to suitability. For half-rim or semi-rimless frames, our frame guide requires polycarbonate lenses. Drilled rimless frames need a drilling service; check the current charge when ordering. Do not assume these frames are suitable for mineral glass—ask our team first. Link to this answer ↗
Can I use designer, vintage or sentimental frames?
You can ask us to fit new lenses to suitable frames you already own, including designer frames. Age, previous repairs, cracks and worn parts can affect whether a frame can be relensed. If your frame is fragile or irreplaceable, please contact our team with clear photos and details before ordering. Link to this answer ↗
Will you return my old lenses?
Yes. Your previous lenses are included when your glasses are sent back to you. If you have a special request concerning your old lenses, let us know with your order. Link to this answer ↗
What happens if my frame is damaged?
We handle your frames with care. Our policy is that we are not responsible for damage to customer-owned frames during shipping, while in our possession or care, or during lens installation. If your frame is damaged, we can offer a free frame as a goodwill gesture, a full refund of what you paid for the lenses, the option to send another frame, or work with you on another suitable solution. Contact us so we can review the circumstances and discuss the next step. Link to this answer ↗

Lens types & coatings
Understand the choices before you choose.
What is the difference between single vision, bifocal and progressive lenses?
Single vision: one viewing purpose, such as distance, reading or computer work.
Bifocal: separate distance and near areas, with a visible reading segment.
Progressive: distance, intermediate and near vision with a gradual change in power and no visible bifocal line.
Start with your prescription and the way you use your glasses. Lens Selection guides you through the available choices. Link to this answer ↗
Are computer or office lenses the same as everyday progressives?
No. Computer and office lens designs focus on particular near and intermediate working distances. They should not be assumed to provide the same distance vision as everyday progressives. Tell us your screen distance and tasks so we can help you choose the appropriate option. Link to this answer ↗
What are high-index lenses, and which index should I choose?
Lens index describes how strongly a material bends light. A higher-index material can make lenses thinner for the same prescription and frame, but it does not automatically make every lens lighter or better. Prescription, frame size, lens design and comfort all matter. Ask us if you are unsure which material to select. Link to this answer ↗
What are polycarbonate lenses?
Polycarbonate is an impact-resistant plastic lens material. It can be useful where durability is a priority and is required by our frame guide for half-rim frames. Impact-resistant does not mean unbreakable, and ordinary glasses should not be assumed to be certified protective eyewear. Link to this answer ↗
What is the difference between Jena and Essilor?
Both are options in our regular lens range. For single-vision lenses, both provide the prescribed vision correction; Essilor is the more established major brand and can offer somewhat better coatings. The exact lens design and selected coating matter. For progressives, compare the specific designs and viewing areas shown in Step 2 of Lens Selection. Link to this answer ↗
Is Anti Glare included with every lens?
No. Included coatings and optional upgrades vary by product. Read the selected product and its Coatings & Options section to see what is included and what costs extra. In particular, uncoated mineral glass lenses do not automatically include Anti Glare. Link to this answer ↗
Is polarization the same as an anti-glare coating?
No. Polarization helps reduce reflected glare from surfaces such as roads and water. An anti-reflective coating reduces reflections on the lens surfaces. They do different jobs, and availability depends on your selected lens. Link to this answer ↗
Can I choose the colour and darkness of sunglass lenses?
Yes, where offered on your chosen product. Our tint options include light (25%), medium (50%) and dark (80%). Colours, solid or gradient tint, and polarization depend on the lens selected. Contact us about other shades or a particular look before ordering; not every combination is available. Link to this answer ↗
05
Transitions & light-adaptive lenses
The right response to a changing day.
Which Transitions lenses do you offer?
We offer Transitions Gen S, XTRActive and XTRActive Polarized, depending on the selected lens. In the regular lens-selection flow, choose Transitions in Step 4, then check Step 5 for available XTRActive upgrades and current additional prices. Gen S is the generation we supply in place of the older Gen 8. Compare Transitions options. Link to this answer ↗
How do Gen S, XTRActive and XTRActive Polarized differ?
Gen S: clear indoors and light-adaptive outdoors, with limited darkening behind a car windshield.
XTRActive: extra darkness outdoors and activation in the car, with a slight indoor tint.
XTRActive Polarized: adds reflected-glare reduction through polarization in outdoor sunlight. It also retains a slight indoor tint.
The best choice depends on how you use your glasses and the combinations available for your prescription. Link to this answer ↗
Will Transitions lenses darken in the car?
Gen S has limited activation behind a windshield. XTRActive and XTRActive Polarized can darken in the car, but less than in outdoor sunlight; the level varies with conditions. XTRActive Polarized does not provide its outdoor polarization effect behind a windshield. Dedicated sunglasses can still be useful for driving. Link to this answer ↗
How quickly do light-adaptive lenses darken and clear?
Their response depends on light exposure, temperature, material and colour. Gen S is designed for fast darkening and fade-back, but there is no single timing or darkness level that applies to every situation. XTRActive options have a slight indoor tint rather than the same indoor appearance as Gen S. Link to this answer ↗
06
Mineral glass lenses
A classic material, with its own considerations.
Do you offer actual glass prescription lenses?
Yes. Our mineral glass lens collection is separate from the regular plastic-lens selection. It includes single vision, bifocal and trifocal options, and Varilux Comfort progressive glass lenses. These are replacement lenses for suitable customer-owned frames; frames are not included. Link to this answer ↗
What are the benefits and drawbacks of glass lenses?
Mineral glass has a hard, scratch-resistant surface and excellent optical properties. It is generally heavier and less impact-resistant than plastic, and it can chip or break. It is generally unsuitable for children’s eyewear, sports or situations needing impact protection. Scratch-resistant does not mean scratch-proof. Link to this answer ↗
Which glass lens coatings and photochromic options are available?
Available combinations depend on the exact glass product. Some options are uncoated, while others offer Anti Glare. Photogrey and Photobrown are offered only in certain combinations. They should not be assumed to have the same performance as a named Transitions product. Check the selected option in the glass lens collection before ordering. Link to this answer ↗
Can glass lenses be fitted to any frame?
No. Your frame’s construction, condition and size, together with your prescription and the available glass design, determine suitability. Do not assume rimless or half-rim frames will work. Contact us with your frame details before ordering if you are unsure. Progressive glass also needs a fitting-measurement review. Link to this answer ↗
How long do mineral glass lenses take?
Allow 10–30 days after we receive your frame for mineral glass lenses to be prepared. Your prescription and required measurements must also be complete. Shipping time is additional. This is a separate estimate from our regular lens-production timing. Link to this answer ↗

Shipping & turnaround
From your door to ours, and back again.
Is shipping free in Canada and the USA?
Yes. We offer free two-way shipping for lens replacement orders in Canada and the USA: your frames come to us using the provided shipping process, and your completed glasses are sent back to you. Follow the country-specific instructions in your email. Optional express upgrades and return or warranty arrangements are separate. See free two-way shipping. Link to this answer ↗
How do I get my shipping label?
After you order, your instruction email explains how to obtain your free shipping label. Use the instructions for your country and the carrier shown on the label. If you have not received the instructions within 24 hours, check spam or junk, then contact us with your order number. If a label has expired or will not work, ask us for help. Link to this answer ↗
How should I pack my glasses for shipping?
Protect your glasses in a hard case where possible, then put them in a sturdy box with enough cushioning to prevent movement. Avoid envelopes and soft packaging. Include the customer data sheet or identifying order information requested in your instructions, and attach the shipping label securely. Complete any required measurement steps before sending. Link to this answer ↗
Can you send me a packaging box?
Select the packaging-box option in the order form where available. If you have already ordered and need a box, contact us with your order number. You can also use your own suitable sturdy box and protective packaging; follow your instruction email. Link to this answer ↗
How long does standard lens replacement take?
Regular lens preparation normally takes 3–8 business days after we have your frame and all required information and materials. Single-vision lenses without special additions may take 2–4 business days. Special lenses, coatings or frame work can take longer. Incoming and return shipping are additional. Mineral glass has a separate 10–30-day preparation estimate. Link to this answer ↗
Can I have my glasses back by a particular date?
Tell us your deadline before ordering or as soon as possible afterwards. We need to consider frame arrival, completed prescription and measurements, lens preparation and shipping. An express shipping upgrade changes the shipping service; it does not automatically shorten lens production. Please wait for our team to confirm what is feasible. Link to this answer ↗
Can I order from outside Canada and the USA?
Check whether your country is available at checkout. International availability and shipping charges depend on the destination, and customers outside Canada and the USA are responsible for shipping in both directions. Contact us before ordering if you need help confirming the arrangements. Link to this answer ↗
How will I know when my glasses have shipped?
We email tracking information when your completed glasses are shipped. You can also use the order status page to follow the stages of your order. Tracking for a packaging box, your incoming frame and your finished glasses may describe different shipments. Link to this answer ↗

The general one-year lens warranty covers manufacturing defects. Contact us with your order number and a description or photos so we can assess the issue and applicable coverage. Shipping arrangements for warranty claims depend on the case. Accidental damage, scratches and prescription changes should not automatically be treated as manufacturing defects. Link to this answer ↗

I am enjoying both my new sunglasses and transition glasses. took a little bit longer than expected but well worth the wait. Highly recommend Dr Lens Change!
Amazing! This is the first time I have used Dr. Len’s Change, and as soon as I put my progressives on, I was very impressed!! I will definitely be back.
I love my frames but they had an old prescription and I didn’t want to give them up, so happy I didn’t have to.
The glasses took about 3 weeks to get back to me from the time I ordered the frames but well worth the wait.
